A Legacy of Leadership, Service, and Community Involvement

NAI Michael (NAI The Michael Companies, Inc.) was founded in 1973 by Kenneth H. Michael when he recognized the need for a commercial real estate firm in the growing Prince George’s County, Maryland. Initially known as the Kenneth H. Michael Companies, we quickly became a leading local commercial real estate firm. In 1981, the company joined the NAI Global network, an international network of owner-operated commercial real estate firms and became NAI The Michael Companies, Inc. This partnership allowed us to expand our reach to national and international markets. Over the ensuing decades, NAI Michael grew into one of the Washington Metropolitan Area’s leading privately-owned, full-service commercial real estate companies. We’ve remained headquartered in Prince George’s County and serve clients across Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Northern Virginia. Key services such as brokerage, property management, and development consulting became our core offerings as we expanded in step with the area’s growth.

Today, NAI Michael proudly remains family-owned and operated after more than half a century of continuous business. Kenneth H. Michael continues to be involved as Chairman of the Board, ensuring his vision carries forward. Leadership of the company has transitioned to the second generation. Gary W. Michael serves as President, and David L. Michael is a Senior Vice President, together guiding our day-to-day operations and strategic direction.

Community involvement has long been a core value of the Michael family. Founder Kenneth H. Michael served on numerous Prince George’s County business and civic organizations, a commitment that continues today through the active leadership and board service of his sons, Gary and David, both of whom remain deeply engaged in local and regional community outreach efforts.

This enduring family stewardship, complemented by long-tenured associates and strong community connections, has preserved NAI Michael’s commitment to personalized client service and deep local expertise. Remembering Wayne K. Curry

Wayne K. Curry, former president of NAI Michael and former County Executive for Prince George’s County, was instrumental in growing and guiding our company. After starting with NAI Michael in the 1970s, Mr. Curry went on to a career in politics, eventually being elected the County Executive for Prince George’s County, MD. Following a successful political career, he returned to NAI Michael as our company president. In 2014, he passed away after a hard-fought battle with lung cancer. Wayne had a profound impact on his community, and we are all grateful to have known and worked with such an incredible person.
